It is found throughout the country except for parts
of the East Midlands.

It grows in well-drained woods, hedges, scrub,
heaths, limestone areas, dunes and shingle,
and amongst Bracken.
Wood Sage is a native, rhizomatous, perennial
herb, growing up to 50cm.
The flowers are in spikes, pale yellow-green
and up to 9mm.
There are 4 prominent stamens with purple anthers.
The style is green with forked stigmas.
Leaves are oval, gently toothed, wrinkly and
up to 7cm.
Wood Sage is slightly aromatic.
