It is found mainly in East Anglia and parts of the South and
the Southwest. It is thinly scattered elsewhere.

It grows in calcareous grassland in sunny dry places,
especially those wet in winter and very dry in summer.
Wild Clary is a native, aromatic, hairy, perennial herb,
growing up to 80cm.
Flowers are up to 15mm, pale purple to blue.
The style and stigma protrudes (excerted) and there
are 2 stamens inside the upper lip.
There are 2 white spots on the lower petal lip.
Bracts are green and ovate.
Fruits are smooth nutlets.
Basal leaves are up to 12cm, ovate, lobed and
wrinkled.
Upper leaves are in pairs.
