It is found thoughout the country, but is less common in
the North and the far Southwest.
It is native in Central and Southern England and planted
elsewhere.

It grows in hedgerows, woods and scrub, mainly on
calcareous soils.
It is widely planted in hedges alongside roads in the South.
Wayfaring-tree is a native, deciduous shrub growing up to
6m.
The flowers are in pom-pom like clusters.
Each flowers has 5 white petals and 5 cream-coloured
anthers, giving the pom-pom an overall cream colour.
Leaves are dark green, crinkled and finely toothed.
In the early autumn, the fruits (berry) turn from orange
to red to black.
