It is found throughout the country except for part of the
far Northwest.

Water Figwort grows in wet places beside fresh water and
in ditches and marshes.
It is a native, rhizomatous, perennial herb, growing up to
120cm.
Flowers are up to 1cm and bright brownish purple.
There are 4 stamens, a capitate stigma and a sterile
staminode.
Fruits are globular capsules.
Leaves are oval, toothed and slightly crinkly.
There are small leaflets where the leaves insert onto
the stem.
Stems are square and winged.
