It is found throughout the country except for parts of
the East Midlands.

It grows on heaths, moors, bogs, poor-grassland and
open woodland.
Heather is a native, bushy, evergreen , woody shrub,
growing up to 60cm.
Flowers are 4-merous (3-4mm). with 4 pale-purple to
white petals forming a bell, 8 stamens inside the flower,
and a protruding style with a 4-lobed stigma.
The flowers are along one side of the stem in two rows.
Leaves are linear, green and small - 1 to 2mm.
