Although native in Western Ireland, it is a naturalised
escape in the UK.
It grows in wet grassland and ditches and on the shores
of lakes.
Blue-eyed-grass is a rhizotomatous, grass-like perennial
herb, growing up to 60cm.
Flowers are up to 2cm across with 6 blue petals and a
yellow centre.
Stamens have filaments fused into a tube with yellow/
orange anthers.
Stems (scapes) are flattened and narrowly winged.
Flowers open singly at the tips of the branches.
The fruit is a capsule.
Leaves are linear and iris-like.
