It grows by streams, in lime-rich flushes on moorland, and

on wet, stony ground.

Description

Yellow Mountain Saxifrage is a native, perennial herb

growing up to 20cm.

It can grow in dense, eye-catching mats or as a single

flower-stem surrounded by sterile shoots.

Flowers are up to 1.5cm and have 5 well-spaced yellow

petals.

Orange to red markings on the petals are much more

obvious at lower light intensities.

The sepals are broadly triangular, lime-green and

visible between the petals.

There are 10 stamens with orange anthers.

The 2 styles are difficult to see at first but are clearly

divergent as the flower ages.

The leaves are thick and lanceolate, with a few stiff hairs.

Leaves are mainly green but some are red.
