Yellow Garlic

 Habitat

 It is a neophyte which has been grown in the UK since the

 late 1590s. It has been known in the wild since the 1830s

 but has been increasing over the last 25 years.

 It has spread from gardens and become naturalised in

 hedgerows, on banks and waste places, and alongside

 roads and tracks.

 Description

 Yellow Garlic is a bulbous, clump-forming, perennial herb

 growing up to 45cm.

 The flowers are bright yellow and star-shaped in umbels

 up to 7cm across.

Individual flowers are approximately 1cm across and

comprise 6 tepals up to 12mm in 2 whorls of 3.

Thetre are 6 stamens made up of yellow filaments and 

pale anthers. They are shorter than the tepals.

There is a single style with a small capitate stigma and

a 3-celled ovary.

The fruit is a capsule.

Leaves are lanceolate and quite wide.
