It grows in dry, nutrient-poor, calcarious grassland,
hedgebanks and scrub, and by paths, roads and
quarries.
Wild Marjoram is a native, aromatic, perennial herb,
growing up to 80cm.
Flowers (up to 8mm) are in flowerheads, which are 3
to 4cm.
Petals are pink-purple and bracts are deep purple.
Flowers are 2 lipped and 5-lobed.
They are protandrous with 4 stamens (2 short and 2
long) and the style has a forked stigma.
Leaves are ovate, up to 4.5cm long and downy.
