This garden escape is naturalised in hedge banks, open
woods and waste ground, along roadsides and paths and
on walls.It can be a persistent weed in gardens.
It grows in the same places as the yellow Welsh Poppy.
Welsh Poppy - orange is a perennial herb that grows to
around 60cm.
It is similar to Welsh Poppy, apart from being orange.
The orange, attractive flower is quite large (up to 7.5cm
across) and has numerous yellow anthers and 4-6 white
stigma lobes.
The leaves are pale green and pinnately lobed.
The fruit is a narrow capsule, as in Welsh Poppy.
The stem releases a yellow juice when damaged.
