It grows on waste ground and in grassy areas beside paths,
tracks, roads and railways.
Tansy is a native, aromatic, rhizomatous perennial herb,
growing up to 1.5m.
Flowerheads are yellow, button-shaped (up to 12mm) and
in flat clusters.
The marginal, female ray florets are short and
inconspicuous.
Leaves are fern-like, pinnate with toothed leaflets.
It has been grown as a medicinal and a culinary plant since
medieval times.
