Habitat

It is a neophyte introduced to the UK from South America.

It is grown in gardens and escapes and grows on waste

ground and tips.

Description

Sweet Tobacco ia an upright annual herb growing up to

1.5m.

The flowers are white and form a trumpet-shaped corolla

tube up to 10cm and a spreading corolla up to 6cm across.

The 5 petals are slightly unequal at the corolla entrance

and are fused to form the corolla tube.

The 5 stamens are inserted inside the corolla tube and

have long white filaments and dark anthers.

There is a long style, also inserted in the corolla tube,

with a capitate stigma 

The calyx also forms a tube.

The leaves clasp the stem and have winged petioles.
