It has previously been included in either the
Scrophulariaceae or the Veronicaceae.

It is rare and occurs mainly in North Devon and West
Somerset.

It is a neophyte introduced into the UK from Western
Europe.
It has been known in the wild since the early 1900s and
naturalised in semi-fixed sand dunes in Braunton Burrows
in North Devon and Berrow Dunes in West Somerset.
Sand Toadflax is an erect, annual herb growing up to
15cm.
The flowers are small (4mm) and in a loose cluster at
the top of thestem. They have 2 lips.
The lower lip is yellow and has 2 large yellow swellings.
The upper lip is pale and the corolla tube has violet
markings. The slender conical spur is violet
to white and up to 3mm long.
The calyx is uneqal in size and is covered in sticky
glandular hairs.
Leaves are linear ovals, fleshy and glandular.
