It appears to be restricted to Braunton Burrows in Devon,
and Breckland heaths in Norfolk and Suffolk.
Small yellow pansies in other coastal areas, such as the
NorthWest, may be small ecotypes of V. tricolor.

It grows in sand dunes by the sea and inland on
heathland in Norfolk and Suffolk.
Seaside Pansy is a native, rhizomatous, perennial
herb growing from 3 and 15cm.
Flowers are small at 8 to 15mm long and yellow with
a purple spur.
The corolla is slightly longer than the sepals.
Leaves are long, wavy ovals with rounded lobes.
The prostrate habit is produced by numerous side
branches.
The stems are mainly prostrate and spreading.
Rhizomes and deep tap roots enable the
Seaside Pansy to reach water and survive
drought conditions.
