It grows on short dry grassland on lime, heaths, dunes,
rocks and cliffs.
Mouse-ear-hawkweed is a native, stoloniferous herb,
growing up to 30cm.
Flowers are lemon-yellow, up to 3cm across and solitary.
Outer florets are red below.
Bracts and the upper stem are covered in glandular,
black hairs.
Leaves are in a basal rosette with conspicuous white hairs.
Rosettes are not obvious when the plants are crowded.
Rosettes of leaves appear at the end of the runners
(stolons).
