It is both native and planted.
It grows in meadows and in grassland beside roads,
footpaths, railways, canals and streams.
Meadow Crane's-Bill is a native, clump-forming, perennial
herb growing up to 1m.
The flowers are 5-merous, up to 3cm, with violet-blue,
unnotched petals.
Anthers are blue and the stigmas vary from white to pink.
Leaves are large (up to 15cm) and deeply cut into 7 to 9
lobes.
There are numerous cultivated forms that resemble
Meadow Cranesbill. They differ in shape of the leaves
and the colour of the flowers. It is difficult to distinguish
between the native flowers and cultivated aliens.
