It is a neophyte which has been grown in the UK since
the 1850s and recognised as a naturalised escape
since around 1900.
It is on the increase in the South.
It grows on waste ground, often near habitation.
It is invasive and grows up through cracks in pavements.
Japanese Anemone is a robust, spreading, perennial herb,
growing up to 1.5m.
Flowers are up to 5cm and vary from white to purple.
The 5 petals are slightly notched and there is a
prominent ring of yellow stamens.
Leaves are large (up to 15cm), palmate, crinkly
and slightly sticky.
