Hybrid Selfheal

Habitat

It grows mainly on calcareous grassland and is found where

both parents grow or where Cut-leaved Selfheal used to grow.

Description

Hybrid Selfheal is a native hybrid between Selfheal and Cut-leaved

Selfheal and grows up to 30cm.

Those shown here have flowers a lighter shade of mauve than

Selfheal and the divided leaves of Cut-leaved Selfheal.

Similarly, they can have the creamy white flowers of Cut-leaved

Selfheal and the entire leaves of Selfheal.

The botanical literature is not definite as to whether Hybrid

Selfheal spreads by both rhizome and fertile seed. At least some

of the hybrid plants shown here have anthers and stigmas.
