It grows in hedges, open woodland, shingle beaches and
waste land.
Hedge Bindweed is a native, rhizomatous and
stoloniferous,perennial, climbing herb growing up to 3m.
Flowers are white (sometimes pink tinged),
trumpet-shaped and up to 6cm across.
There are 5 stamens with white filaments and linear
anthers.
The long style and 2 linear stigmas are white.
The fruit is a green capsule up to 12mm.
The calyx is 5 lobed and pale green. It is hidden by 2 large
bracteoles.
Leaves are arrow shaped.
Stems are thin and climb by twisting anti-clockwise.
Hedge Bindweed is a persistent weed and is able to regrow
from very small fragments of stolons and rhizomes.
