Habitat

It is a neophyte introduced from the Mediterranean region

and grown in the UK as a rockery and wall garden plant.

The escape is found on hedge banks, walls and rocks.

Description

Ground Blue-convolvulus is a perennial, trailing,

rhizomatous, mat-forming herb growing up to 20cm.

Flowers are up to 2.5cm across, light blue to violet with

a yellow centre within a white ring. There are 5 petals

fused into a funnel.

There are 5 stamens with white filaments and anthers

There is a single style with 2 linear white stigmas.

The fruit is a spherical capsule.

The calyx has 5 lanceolate, hairy sepals.

There are 2 narrow, lanceolate bracteoles below the flower.

Leaves are pointed ovals, up to 2cm and slightly hairy and

alternate.

Stems are trailing and slightly hairy.
