It is most common in the South and the Southwest. It is
very thinly scattered elsewhere and almost absent in
the North.

It grows on light, sandy, coastal soils.
It is a neophyte which was introduced into the UK from
Chile in the 1790s and recognised in the wild in the
1850s.
Fragrant Evening-primrose is a colourful,colony-forming,
biennial herb, growing up to 1m.
The large, showy, yellow flowers have 4 petals and are
up to 5cm.
After the initial flowering, the petals turn red.
There are 4+ 4 stamens, which are roughly the same
length as the 4-lobed stigma.
Sepals are recurved, and red with white stripes.
Flower buds are red.
Capsules are club-shaped and up to 2.2cm.
Leaves are up to 10cm. Lower leaves are linear-
lanceolate and stem leaves are broader.
Stems are pinkish red.
