Dwarf Pansy

Habitat

It grows on short, sandy, coastal turf.

Description

Dwarf Pansy is a tiny, native, annual herb growing up to

10cm.

The plants shown here were much smaller at 2-3cm and

were difficlt to photograph.

Flowers are up to 4mm across, slightly concave, and a

mixture of cream, yellow and violet. The spur is violet,

up to 2mm and a bit longer than the appendages.

The lower leaves are roundish and evenly lobed,

and the stipules are leaf-like and ovate to lanceolate.

Stems are erect to decumbent.

Dwarf Pansy is very difficult to find, even when you

 know it is supposed to be present. As you can see,

you need to go down on your hands and knees.
