Bluebells forms carpets in deciduous woodlands,
hedgerows, banks, open grassland by the sea,
under bracken and on cliffs.
It is also a naturalised garden escape.
Bluebell is a native, perennial, bulbous herb, growing
up to 50cm.
The flower stem has a bent-over flowering spike.
The bright blue, tubular, bell-shaped flowers are
on one side of the spike.
Some flowers are white.
Spanish Bluebell (H. hispanica) is also frequently
found. It is more robust and the flower bells are shorter
and less dangly.
They can be blue, white or pink.
